Where am I ?!?!

If you look at my little map, you will see that I have traveled the most random route imaginable.  Well, yesterday morning it was sunny and warm(ish) in Chicago, so I decided I would drive up to Mackinac Island to check it out.  I have heard that it's a beautiful place that is worth visiting, but knowing that I would not be there until the end of October or the beginning of November I was initially going to skip it.  The warm sun and the fact that I don't have to be in San Fransisco for another three weeks, changed my mind. I got in the car and, although it is against the rules, headed east and then north.  Very far north.  I spent the night about an hour away from Mackinac so that I could get up and spend lunch on the island, walk around a bit and then continue on my way. Well, this morning it was cold and raining.  I knew as I drove closer that there was no way I was getting on that ferry.  If the boat ride wasn't torturous enough, I would then be stuck on a pedestrian island forced to wander in the rain until I could take the boat back.  I drove all the way to the ferry stop, just to make sure that I really didn't want to go.  Yeah, I didn't.  It was too cold.  And honestly I'm not sure I could have gone if I wanted to -- the ferry terminal (?) looked deserted and I didn't see a single boat.  No loss.

I decided to continue on to Green Bay.  Part of my 'visit Mackinac plan' was so that I could bum around the Upper Peninsula until the weekend and I could go to the Packers/Cowboy's game on Sunday. But a little web surfing lead me to discover that hotels in Green Bay on game day are nearly impossible to find. The Packers sell a ticket/hotel package that cost $799.  There is no way I am buying that!

Tonight I am in Green Bay staying right next to the stadium.  Motels are readily available (and inexpensive) on random Wednesdays.  (Is today Wednesday? I have no idea anymore.) The 'Roadside Inn' is actually a kick.  It is all decked out for tailgating: there are instructions about where to park for grilling stations and my ground floor room has a big window that opens wide with a table, a couch and a big screen right next to it. It's like staying in the mods.

Tomorrow I am going to visit the Lambeau Field --  is there anything else to do in Green Bay...?

  1. Too bad about Mackinac, but you made the right choice, I am sure. Miss you and wish Green Bay had worked out for a join up.

  4. Geez...you did travel far! Hopefully you at least saw some fall foliage on your drive. I say...eat some cheese (and maybe a brat?), do the football tour and move on!
