I arrived in Seattle late yesterday afternoon and (again, with very little notice) called my aunt to see if I could crash at her house on Bainbridge Island. I got off the I-90 and headed straight for the ferry terminals. I felt like a real Seattle-ite as I boarded the 5:30pm ferry with all the commuters. The first thing that I did was check the ladies' room. No, this was not for the usual reason (although while there, of course, I did pee). I was looking to see if they had the makeup stations like on the Staten Island ferry. They did, but they weren't as
Working Girl-tastic as on the S.I. ferry. The Seattle ferry has mirrors with little shelves in front, but the S.I. ferry has seats and a big aluminum table up at the mirrors. It always reminds be of the private study booths at the library. I'll bet that these ladies take their makeup application more seriously than I ever did my studies!
I spent a fun evening with my aunt Lisa, Leola's sister, and my cousin James who I have only meet once or twice before. My plan was to just stop for the night here and then head up to Vancouver today. I would come back to Seattle for the weekend and stay with my childhood friend Dana Smith while exploring the city. This night was just a great chance to see my family.

Unexpectedly, Dana called me while I was headed back to the ferry this afternoon with a great idea. "Crash at my place tonight and then we can both go to Vancouver tomorrow and stay for the weekend." A travel buddy! This is so exciting. Although... where is she going to fit in the mini? Hmmm. I'm clearly going to have to clean some stuff out. Also, I'm not positive, but I think that the car is starting to smell like dirty socks. What does it say about me that I am worried about Dana's reaction to this, rather than the stank itself? Eh, she's been warned -- now I'm off the hook.
Now, instead of walking around the city in the rain (it is Seattle after all), I am watching television and doing laundry. This is my new, most favorite way to spend an afternoon!
