Canadian Music c. 1992

I just finished watching the very disappointing Yankee game (go Phillies?) at a bar with live music. The singer brought up the music wars (?) of the early 90's in Canada to determine who was the better band: Bare Naked Ladies or The Tragically Hip. I laughed out loud because for my birthday freshman year of college my Canadian friend Sarah ( if your reading this, Hi Sarah!) sent me a CD by each band. Until that point, I had never heard of either. Then they sang my favorite BNL song "What a Good Boy,"* which sadly now makes me think of A&E's Intervention.

By the way, it's snowing outside.

*That song selection may be inaccurate... I snuck (sneaked?) out for a cigarette just as they started to play it and from outside that's what it sounded like.  I mention this because right before I left I was talking to Amanda Cottreau, one of the singers (along with Steve Perron), and I gave her my blog address... if I was wrong, I wouldn't want her to think I was making up things willy-nilly.  Granted, who's to say that she's not a figment of my imagination too?  Maybe I am still sitting on my couch in New York...
